Family Feast at Italianni's

Happy Birthday, Totoy

Italianni's is a restaurant known for singing to its guests who are celebrating their birthdays. Coincidentally, Noel (Javi's brother) had just recently celebrated his birthday, so his brothers (Miggy and Javi) came up with the perfect plan to have the waiters sing to him.

When asked what name they should put on the "cake," they gave a fake name that the waiters understood to be "Totoy" - a Filipino term for someone who's supposedly still wet behind the ears.
Here are Javi and Noel in uncontrollable laughter as they wait for the waiters to sing "Happy Birthday, Totoy" to the birthday boy.

Manila, I'm Comin' Home... to EAT

Every Balikbayan* knows that when s/he comes home to Manila, there is an overabundance of food. True enough, my trip with Javs to Manila consisted of continuous servings of food!
*balik = return / bayan = country (ie, as a noun, it means someone who returns to his/her country)

So here is an account of our FOOD TRIPs, as we call 'em in the Philippines.
(See? We even have a term for it!)

Cute little dinner rolls to start off with

Warm, soft and yummy! These rolls served as good appetizers, as they gave us a special sauce to dip them into. Too bad P didn't get a shot of the sauce, though. Next time, P!

Patti's Mushroom Foie-Gras Ravioli

Patti had an interesting experience with this dish afterwards when she was driving home. Let's just say that those were some mushrooms! It's a good thing P got home safe... in spite of her hallucinations!

Christy's Baked Norwegian Salmon in Filo Pastry

I don't know how C liked the salmon, but I honestly wasn't too fond of it, perhaps because of the lack of sauce or flavor. Also because I'm not too much of a salmon fan! I'm a Tilapia advocate!

My Roasted Fatless Rack of Lamb in Herb Crust

This was absolutely delicious! It was cooked just right - juicy and tasty enough, but the herbs and sauce did not overpower the taste of the lamb. Very DROOLWORTHY, I tell you!

Coffee Crunch Souffle
This little piece of heaven was unfortunately too small for the three of us! What a little tease it was!
